Some nice words

“It’s extremely difficult to create a unique piece of art in an industry that’s awash with same-y titles, watered down sequels and plain ol’ rip-offs, so it’s important for gamers to not let rare jewels slip through the cracks. Turtle Sandbox’s Cannon Brawl is just such a jewel.” – Andrew Heaton WeGotThisCovered.com

“I enjoyed it immensely.” – Chris O’Regan, Spong.com

“I can honestly say that Cannon Brawl is one of the most interesting games I’ve played in quite some time.” – Liam Dawe GameingOnLinux.com

“The game is simply stellar at what it sets out to do.” – Luke Siuty IndieGameMag

Overall, Cannon Brawl is a wonderful experience that should find its way onto everyone’s computer. The game is $15 on Steam and there’s even an option to buy a two pack of it for $20. The price is easily worth it for either option as players will spend several hours on the Campaign and even more with the multiplayer.” – Billy White GameIndustryNews

It’s just one of those games that will make you thankful for the Indie developer movement, because it’s fun as hell to play, doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to buy, and is curated by talented developers that will stop at nothing to ensure the gaming public remains pleased with its offerings.” - Matt Heywood Entertainment Buddha

Comprised mostly of action and doing away with the filler, Cannon Brawl is a game aimed towards the strategy fans that just want to get into the game and start calculating the most efficient trajectory towards your opponents castle for your projectile. ” – Gabriel Mejia Two Dash Stash

Turtle Sandbox has made a strategy game with a ton of joy. Cannon Brawl is delightful and chaotic. It’s fast-paced and strategic. It is a combination of like-minded ideas I’m surprised haven’t been brought together before. Ultimately, Cannon Brawl is the most fun I have had playing a multiplayer strategy game in years, standing tall in its storied genre.” - Clint Prentice Error Not Found

It’s a game for blowing each other up, and it does this with a sense of fun that is hard not to be caught up in.” – Brendan egmr.net

“Cannon Brawl melds the RTS and tower defense genres into a narcotic blend whose sum – in this age of derivation – overshadows its parts. The gameplay hooks sink in early, and they sink in deep. With such tasty bait, the hardest part of Cannon Brawl is putting the controller down for a break … but just for a few minutes.” – Josh Kowbel wiki game guides

I personally keep coming back to the game as I still find myself baffled at how something so simple can be such a complicated metagame, and I find myself enjoying every second of it.” – Alex R – Gamers Assault Weekly

Advanced Strategy Walkthrough

Having trouble with Nightmare Mode? Want to climb the ranks in multiplayer? I made a video that will walk you through some of the advanced strategies that explain how high level players think about the game. Learn how to get your economy going fast and most efficiently utilize your weapons and defense. I also explain how ‘player attention’ is a resource in the game and how you can use that against your opponent:

I’ll probably do a ‘part 2′ follow-up to get more specific on each map and cover individual weapons.

Yogscast plays Cannon Brawl!

Pete and I are teaming up with the Yogscast guys to try to get some more eyeballs on our indie game Cannon Brawl. As a tiny team of two, we need all the help we can get in getting the word out about this labor of love that we’ve been working on for the last few years. Our hope is that the YogDiscovery video will help grow the audience for Cannon Brawl, because the more people playing multiplayer the more fun it is for everyone! Pete and I want to be completely transparent that a small portion of each sale of Cannon Brawl will go to support Yogscast for a week after they post about us, in addition to the 10% being donated to charity through our Humble sales.

We hadn’t seen the video they posted in advance, and we wanted it to be an honest reflection about the game. We’re in Beta and Cannon Brawl still has a few rough edges, but all in all Pete and I are really proud of the game we’ve put together. It’s been a lot of long nights, peering through code, photoshop ninja-ing, tuning parameters, and tinkering with the game to make it as solid as possible. We hope the core mechanics shine through and that the Yogscast broadcast will help players who were looking for an artillery based RTS find our little gem!

Dev Update – Laser Targeting and Insane Difficulty Mode

We got a bunch of requests from players who tried our free alpha (which you can download here) for improved AI and an insane difficulty mode. I’ve been improving it for the final game and made this short video to show off the AI’s improved laser targeting and the start of our new Insane difficult mode:

I’m still doing some AI shield placement and cannon target selection improvements, as well as more tests to determine what’s the next step in making the AI an even more challenging opponent.

Of course, the most challenging opponents are always going to be humans, and I’m excited to announce work has begun on online multiplayer and it’s looking pretty good!

Hope you enjoyed this dev update!

Let me know what you think, and don’t forget to vote yes on Greenlight!

Dev Update – AI Improvements

When we released our free alpha demo, which you can download here, we got a lot of feedback! One of the most common requests was a more challenging AI. So, I’ve been working on improving it for the final game and made this short video to explain what I’ve been up to:

I’m still working on adding an Insane difficulty mode, and doing some more improvements in how the AI places shields and chooses cannon angles, as well as improving his behavior when operating the other weapons and defenses. For the final game, he should be a much tougher opponent!

Hope you enjoyed this dev update!
